The three key components to my story...

1. Character: Toymaker
2. Location: Prison Cell
3. Prop: Helium Balloon

  1. A prison cell could be the inside of a balloon or you could use the contrast between the bright child-like vibes from balloons and a toymaker with the more depressing and dangerous feelings that a prison cell gives off!

    1. Sounds really interesting, completely different to my own ideas! :) thanks Maddi

  2. 'Prison Cell' could be an example of a character's 'internal conflict' - so they're trapped inside themselves. Any room or space could be considered a prison cell if the person inside it has no freedom (of any kind?). Rapunzel's tower, for example - or indeed an 'unhappy marriage'...

  3. That sounds like a really interesting approach! I'm going to write all my ideas down and see what I've got.

  4. When I read your 3 words the Hatter in Alice in Wonderland comes to mind when he's captured by the red queen and becomes her hatter, even though he hates the red queen he's quite amused making hats for her even though she killed his family - he's quite mad you know. Maybe your toy maker could be inspired by Mad Hatter???

  5. I was thinking of having the toymaker as a lady, because most people would assume the toymaker to be a man. I thought the lady could be sent to prison and inside the prison she learns to make toys for children. Outside of the prison she has children of her own and wants to give something back to them, almost out of guilt. What do you think? Not sure where to put the balloon though!

  6. Think that's a great idea and why doesn't the balloon be a toy? A symbolic, meaningful, unlike any other balloon - what about steampunk, victorian and mechanical???
